Wendell says

I remember sitting down with my Editor from Cisco Press at Cisco’s Networkers conference (now Cisco Live!) back in 2004, talking about completely re-writing what was then Edition 1 of the CCIE R/S Written Exam Cert Guide. It was frankly a bit scary to even try. Three editions later, Edition 4 of the CCIE book is still big, still densely packed with info, and still cannot possible include every nook and cranny of the content of the CCIE R/S written exam. But it includes a lot, and many people tell us it’s very useful for prepping for the exam.
It’s around 1000 pages long. It covers LAN switching, VTP, STP variations. It covers IP routing, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, and more BGP. It covers QoS, from queuing to marking to avoidance to shaping to policing and more. It covers IPv6, with routing protocols, redistribution, and coexistence. It includes IP multicast and Security, MPLS and other WAN topics. And if Rus (Healy), Denise (Donohue), and I didn’t pay attention when writing, it would be another 500 pages long without even blinking. It’s a lot, but so is the exam. This is a great book to get you the core of what’s on the CCIE R/S written.
A brief word about Written vs. Practical (Lab): The CCIE R/S Written exam is hard, but it’s clearly not even close to the difficulty of the CCIE lab exams. This book is designed to help you with the written exam. Many people find it helpful for the lab, but it’s goal is to help with the Written test. Enjoy!
